Prize-winning biographer Megan Marshall (Harvard ’77) has written an account of the life of her late partner, the poet Scott Harney (Harvard ’77) whose formative years were spent in working-class Charlestown. When admitted to Harvard, he commuted to attend classes on the #86 bus to Harvard Square. As a student there, he met Megan Marshall in a poetry workshop taught by Robert Lowell. What happened to these two friends (and lovers) in the ensuing years until Scott’s premature death is the subject of her play called Meeting Scott Harney. She and David Gullette (Harvard ’62), an actor and Literary Director of The Poets’ Theatre, will perform it for us. The twists and turns of Scott’s life, as narrated by Megan, are illuminated by selected poems by Scott crisply rendered by David. True to the mission of The Poets’ Theatre, the drama of this story resides in the powerful language of this (until now) unknown poet. After the 40-minute play, the actors look forward to a discussion with the Wellesley Neighbors audience.
