"The Danger of a Single Story"

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of acclaimed novels (see above), short stories and nonfiction and, also, winner of a MacArthur Genius Grant, grew up in Nigeria, now teaches in the US, and spends part of the year in both countries.  Her engaging, witty, and thought-provoking 2009 TED Talk on cultural competency, based on her own experience, has attracted 30,000,000 listeners who speak 49 different languages. In it, she tells how she found her authentic cultural voice as a storyteller and urges us to broaden our perspective of people and places to avoid a “critical misunderstanding” based on a "single story," a limited exposure to a country or ethnic group.
