N.C. Hunter's "beautiful and shamefully neglected" A Picture of Autumn, one of the most wonderful performances ever to grace the Mint stage.
A delightful comedy of quality and charm which has become the hallmark of all N C Hunter’s plays. The main theme deals with the efforts of the well-meaning son to organise the sale of his parents’ house, which is much too large and expensive for them to cope with.
And it played to great reviews:
"A picture of autumn is about an aging, once prosperous family living in an aging, once grand Manor and the echoes of Chekhov are unmistakable, if subdued and Anglicized. It’s a big, generous play, exquisitely written, both funny and touching."
The New Yorker
"A picture of autumn is impressive in every way and the Mint staging directed with quiet intelligence by Gus Conant and acted by a top drawer ensemble cast, is so strong that in a perfect world it would trigger a general revival of interest in Mr. Hunter’s work." The Wall Street Journal
