Please join this adventure into the immense figurative world of this famous Colombian artist, now 89, who has thrilled spectators and collectors with his works for seven decades. If you do, he has created a style so unique that, thereafter, you will be able to instantly recognize his paintings, drawings, and sculptures whenever you come across them. In fact, many consider Botero to be the most easily recognized artist of our time. You will also discover that he endows his atypical renderings with mixtures of appeal, charm, satire, humor, irony, and criticism. He portrays daily life in Colombia, pays homage to great artists and great paintings, and addresses political issues in his works. By watching a 30-minute Chinese documentary–in itself curious—get to know Botero’s works, the artist himself, and his adult children as they are interviewed in Beijing and Shanghai in the midst of an exhibition.
Please watch the video before the Zoom session.
