About this event
Introduction to Mindfulness
Neil Motenko
Thursday, February 25, 2021
7:30 PM Zoom Talk
Are we truly "present" in our lives? A Harvard study says we are lost in thought, ruminating oroperating on autopilot -- not fully attuned to what we are doing when we are doing it -- roughlyhalf the time. The practice of mindfulness – cultivating a clear-eyed awareness arising from purposely paying attention in the present moment -- can play a key role in stress reduction,well-being, and skillfully navigating life’s challenges. Neil Motenko will present a basic introduction to mindfulness, its foundations and its many benefits, including a guided meditation and an orientation to formal and informal mindfulness practices that can be integrated into daily life.
In retirement, Neil teaches mindfulness-based programs, having been trained to do so by the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Neil has presented programs on mindfulness to seniors at the Wellesley, Needham, Newton, Brookline and Belmont Councils on Aging, and to community groups, businesses and law firms. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Neil came tomindfulness practice in law school. He is a retired lawyer, having been a partner at Nutter, McClennen & Fish LLP and then Senior Conflicts Counsel at Ropes & Gray LLP.
