Dear potential volunteer,
Thanks for your interest! Wellesley Neighbors is part of a growing “Village Movement” across the country, with more than 200 Villages now thriving nationwide. The goal is simple yet powerful: to help older adults remain safely, comfortably, and actively engaged in their communities for as long as possible.
At Wellesley Neighbors, we do this through the support of neighbors helping neighbors. As a volunteer, whether you are a member or not, we will work with you to match your interests, skills, and availability with the needs of our members. Your efforts create meaningful connections, reduce isolation, and make it possible for members to navigate the challenges of aging with confidence and dignity.
We are deeply grateful for the commitment, time, and care of all of our volunteers. Together, we make Wellesley Neighbors stronger.
With appreciation,
Joan Minklei, Executive Director
The Value of Your Time
Did you know? In Massachusetts the value of volunteer time is estimated at $42 per hour. Nationally, the 2024 average was $34.79, reflecting the incredible impact volunteers make across the country. While no dollar amount can truly capture the generosity and care of our volunteers, these numbers highlight just how valuable your contributions are, not just to Wellesley Neighbors but to the community and society as a while.
When you volunteer with us, you're not only helping neighbors, you are investing in the well being and resilience of our entire community.
Wellesley Neighbors thrives because of dedicated community volunteers.
Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, generously sharing their time and talents to support older adults in living vibrant, connected lives. They contribute in countless ways, including:
-
Driving members to medical and dental appointments (this is always our most in-demand service!)
-
Running errands and delivering groceries
-
Providing tech support and computer help
-
Offering friendly companionship
-
Assisting with light help around the house, e.g., moving some boxes, hanging a picture
-
Assisting with event planning and coordination with the back office
Whether you have a few hours a month or a few hours a week, your help can make a meaningful difference.
