We are fortunate indeed to have Mimi Ferrell present and then talk with us about a 34-minute film called The Barre Project. During the pandemic, the lockdown brought performances in theaters with live audiences to a halt. Daunted but not doomed, artists began to explore virtual alternatives without place and time constraints; in fact, an unconventional creativity flourished as part of the lockdown culture. Renowned choreographer William Forsythe and New York City Principal dancer Tiler Peck, figured out how to teach and learn the piece remotely on Zoom and, together with three other accomplished dancers as well as a global leader in online dance education, CLI Studios, they produced this dance film. Part performance, part documentary, it was created remotely via Zoom and premiered on an empty stage of a theater in Los Angeles in late March of 2021, when the movie was made. Jann Parry (dancetab.com, April 8, 2021) called this collaboration "the best-conceived dance film streamed during . . . Covid-19 constraints.”
