About this event

Cocktails and Conversation
with Jim Kaufman

"The History of  the Dedham Pottery Company"
Friday, May 30, at 5 PM
on Zoom*

Jim Kaufman, collector and volunteer pottery curator at the Dedham Museum & Archive, will present an illustrated lecture titled “Hugh C. Robertson’s Ceramic Artistry and His Famous Dedham Pottery. The company's hand-decorated, crackle-glazed ceramic pieces were a sensation in the 1890s garnering front page newspaper coverage in Boston’s press; and they remained popular for decades thereafter. We will learn the aspects of Asian art that influenced Robertson, how he became the first American studio potter to experiment with glazes, what the results were, and the effect they had on his career and the company’s fortunes.

Please join us on Zoom to learn more about this arts and crafts pottery, created on our doorstep, in Dedham, MA. And, by the way, check to see if you have among your family heirlooms a piece of this highly regarded stoneware.
