New Bedford Museum of Glass on Wednesday at 11 AM
About this event
Join us for a docent-led tour of the
New Bedford Museum of Glass
Sign-up deadline: Thursday, April 18th by 9 PM.
During the Victorian era, New Bedford was renowned as the “Art Glass Headquarters of the Country.” Rose Amber glass, Crown Milano, Royal Flemish, Burmese, and Lava glass are just a few of the exotic lines developed in New Bedford. Many fine examples are represented in the museum’s 7,000-piece collection, which surveys the history of glass from ancient times to the present day. Antique tools, including a 7-foot tall glass press, will help us explore the fascinating technology of working glass. Dazzling masterpieces by Tiffany, Steuben, Lalique, Baccarat, Sandwich, Swarovski, Waterford, and many other celebrated makers will allow us to admire the beauty of this art. Of particular interest is the Crystal Kingdom, an extensive collection of glass animals.
Lunch will be available at The Black Whale Restaurant, 104 Co-Op Wharf (Pier 3), New Bedford, MA 02740. Phone: 1-508-990-7100. Price range $15 - $20. The restaurant overlooks the harbor and the scallop fishing boats.
