About this event
Join us to visit the historical
Forbes House Museum
Milton, MA
Friday, July 12th at 11 AM*
Forbes House, built in Milton in 1833, was the home of sea captains who found great success in foreign trading in the mid to late nineteenth century. Along with the Cabots, Peabodys, Delanos, Endicotts, Coolidges and other Boston Brahmin families, eleven members of the extended Forbes family were involved in the “China Trade,” spanning the years 1784 to 1887. Captain Robert Bennet (Ben) Forbes (1804 –1889), the most well-known member of the Forbes family, commanded the USS Jamestown during America's first international relief effort, bringing food to County Cork during the Irish Potato Famine in the 1840s.
A docent will lead us through the Greek Revival style mansion with furniture, china, paintings and objects, all related to the China trade. We'll also see the Lincoln Room with memorabilia collected by one of the Forbes in the 1920s, who also had a replica of Lincoln's log cabin built on the property.
After the visit, time and weather permitting, we can stroll through the grounds before having lunch in a local pub.
Entrance Fee: $10, payable at museum.

if you want to stay for lunch.
*Please note that the basement & 2nd floor
