Six String and Ten String Spanish Guiatarists on Thursday at 4:00 PM
About this event
Spanish Guitars and Guitar Masters
November 19 at 4:00 PM on Zoom
Join us for an opportunity to learn more about
six string and ten string guitars played by:
Andrés Segovia, Narciso Yepes, John Williams and Julian Bream
Rosalie Gimeno will be the moderator.
Modern classical guitars have dimensions established in the nineteenth century but differ in the number of their strings. Segovia, Williams, and Bream’s instruments have six, the customary number in the twentieth century. Yepes’s has ten; in fact, he created and introduced the ten-string guitar in 1964. Prominent musicians praised it, but Andrés Segovia disapproved even before he had heard it played. Yepes asserted that his design improved the acoustical and musical qualities of the instrument. Listen and tell us what you think.
